It's Like Running Into a Brick Wall

I was cruising along, working on the border to Sweet Tart and getting a lot done. So much cheddar, it just about makes me cross my eyes from the glare! Then after the little basket border was sewn on, I was thrown to a screeching halt by the realization that the quilt top was already finished. Wow. It was just over and done with.

What? There is still another border to go, right? I couldn't believe how quickly this quilt decided to call it quits. I played and played with a couple different ideas, from simple one-fabric borders to multi-colored pieced or applique ideas and nope. No dice. The only thing that seems to make anything look better {in my imagination} is using some of that lovely grass green as a binding. That's all I could come up with!*sigh  If I would have known this was the one and only border, those little baskets would have definitely been sewn up in other, probably darker colors. Don't you hate that? Second guessing the previous decisions when the future decisions are moot 'cuz they aren't even happening anymore?
Loving the big flowers
So now I'm a little bit miffed, feeling rather restless and questioning my creativity. {There was a really good border idea waiting to happen!}. I've been spending way too much time scoping out other peoples fabulous quilting efforts and feeling pretty meager in comparison. It's really probably more like Summer blues hitting early and a little too much chaos in our life. We're trying to get things scheduled so we're better prepared for the big weekends, but it's just gonna be one of those fast, crazy summers.
Just won't let me make it any bigger...
Had to go to the airport and pick up our youngest son. Took the opportunity to buy a new pair of summer, wedge, high heeled sandals while we were in the big city. Now if I could just convince myself to quit wearing pantyhose! I'm so old school it's terrifying, but in my defense I am married to a minister. Also, being a redhead and one with very pale skin there is no trying to tan. My legs are either white or sunburned red, so really, there are no good options. And I won't fake tan so that's out too. Thus the never ending quest to find great hose in the appropriate color. My fave aren't the most durable in the world, but mostly I stick to Hanes Silk Reflections in the 'Barely There' color. They feel pretty breathable, which is a plus in summer, and I don't have to buy control top in that particular brand. Ugh..  Most companies assume that because you're wearing hose, you must also want to squeeze all your innards into a sausage casing too. Umm..., why are we having this conversation? Oh yeah. Lack of creativity and a jam packed summer. You never know. I may have to start five new projects just to overcome...  Linking up with Wendy at the Peacock Party

  1. This is absolutely delightful. Would love to see this close-up because I love yellow and pink together so the cheddar color must really be showy. There is a lot of work on this quilt. The tulips, sigh, . . . Why haven't I made a tulip quilt yet?

  2. LOL about the hose - I'm with you I wear them when I need to dress up - my legs never tan enough, splatter veins are a problem - my legs just look better with hose but yes why do we have to be squeezed into them - maybe that is why I rarely dress up?
Love the quilt all those baskets are just so neat looking

  3. Comparison is the murderer of joy. I think your quilt is so sweet. I love the play on size with the baskets and the colors are happy.

You make me laugh with your sausage casing remark. I've haven't worn hose since I had a c-section and splenectomy a month apart 18 years ago. Those things irritate my scars for the very reason you mentioned.

  4. Your quilt top looks really pretty! I love it as is, and can see it with a green triangle border.

  5. Your quilt is beautiful. A green binding will be the perfect frame. The sausage casing made me laugh. That's so true! My legs are so white, people could go blind with the reflection off them. The things we do!

  6. Love the tulips. Ha ha... I agree with you on the hose. I often wear longer skirts to avoid the problem!

  7. It's wonderful Audrey, and so good of it to let you know that it's complete. As for those pantyhose, I say ditch them during the summer months. Waaaaaay too hot for me. I've long since realized that no one is really looking anyway :) and you might as well be comfy.

  8. Glad you listened to Sweet Tart and stopped. It's happy and balanced and done. Nylons? It just doesn't happen anymore.

  9. Ha ha, so true about the hose! Your cheddar basket quilt is a work of art. I would want to keep it on the wall so that I could see it all the time.

  10. I love Em's comment about comparison murdering joy. I, too, am guilty of spending too much time scoping out ideas from the work of others instead of joyfully making on my own . . . and the summertime blues comment rings true here, too. I love love love your quilt that decided to be done. It's perfect!

  11. Audrey, it is a bit mind blowing to me that someone so talented as you second guess yourself. Everything you make is so wonderful and like Nestki said this one is a work of art. I wondered one day if I followed exactly what you did would something I make look as good.
Meanwhile, empathize with those pantyhose woes. I only go bare legged with a midi skirt.

  12. You are too funny! I read the entire post with a smile on my face :)
Maybe if you put it in the time out/UFO closet, it will come up with some new border addition ideas in a jiffy!?

  14. Sometimes a quilt in process does the deciding for you as to when it is done. I have had that happen too.
When women quit wearing panty hose, I couldn't understand why. They sort of had a 3/4 finish look. Now I am used to it. I can no longer wear heels due to my knee surgeries. I haven't purchased panty hose in a long time and I am okay with that.

  15. A lovely quilt. Green box ding sound perfect. I really want to make a basket quilt soon and I know someone who wants a grandmother quilt so it may happen soon.
I have the same problem with my legs as a former redhead. Now I just look completely ghostly.

  16. We have more in common than I knew 😉 In addition to a love of handquilting and hand applique we both have red hair, pale skin and I wore pantyhose to church this morning as I do every Sunday. I bet you have freckly knees too - lol! I love your Sweet Tart quilt and green binding will be a perfect finish.

  18. I love it when a quilt suddenly decides it's done, and now you have a perfectly good border idea tucked away for another time, so it's win/win. You do know, don't you, that there are probably plenty of people looking at your quilts and wishing they could produce work like that.

  19. Such a lovely finish Audrey and good choice of using the grass green fabric for the binding.

  20. When I was a teen girdles and hosiery was the way to dress up. Even for us beautiful skinny young things. Later the panty hose came along. I too rebel against the cinching in. If I want that I WILL exercise!
