You know me, always trying to figure out how to add a little more applique into my life! These little birdies were a joy to stitch, only causing me a few fits around the deep crease at the bottom of the wing.

Applique blocks for Flock of Geese quilt |
The fabric is a bit different than my usual, but it was something I had bought a couple years ago for setting triangles in a previous quilt and then never used. I won't deny that sometimes these particular fabrics end up being quite a challenge to gracefully incorporate into another quilt later on down the road! I don't like to think of them as 'oops' fabric though because I never would have bought the print in the first place if something about it hadn't spoke to me.

Looking at some progress.... |
So... the plan is to put these appliqued blocks with my Flock of Geese blocks using a wide sashing and make a really incredible quilt.*wink Isn't that what we all strive for in our quilting every single day? lol
I love your bird blocks! I can't wait to see them put together with the geese blocks! I know it will be fabulous! I have some fabrics that might be considered 'oopes' but I have decided that the 'right' project just hasn't come along yet.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering what this design is going to look like - you have peaked my curiosity
ReplyDeleteI think the blue fabric makes really interesting birds. I can't wait to see how they work with the pieced birds :0)
ReplyDeleteYour birds are tres delightful Audrey. They are going to look really special in your quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love your blue birds!! Of course this is going to be another one of your incredible quilts!!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of combining your "flocks." Looking forward to seeing the result!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteYou probably already know, but anyway, there is a pattern available for the wonderful applique quilt pictured on your May 22 blogpost. It's a favorite of mine, too. Here's the link: http://www.etsy.com/listing/103092082/calico-paradise-applique-quilt-pattern?ref=shop_home_active
You sure have an inspiring blog!
Thank you! I did know about the wonderful pattern put together by Dawn--almost bought it a time or two myself, but decided I wanted to try and 'interpret' the pattern in my own way.:)
DeleteVery special fabrics! It would be a challenge for me to do something with this.
ReplyDeleteThe blue and green are very pretty together. Looking forward to seeing the next stage of this quilt come together.
ReplyDeleteA flock of sweet little bluebirds---never can guess what you are up to next!!
ReplyDeleteI love the blue/green combination! Looks like a lot of fun so far. :D
ReplyDeleteThe blocks look superb, love the colors, and I've never met a witty quilt name that I didn't like. Pieced geese + appliqued birds -- what's not to love? Fun idea ! Looking forward to watching your progress.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you're cooking up over there with the geese!
ReplyDeleteLooks like lots of fun... and of course it will be incredible!
sweet little blue birds - great color combination
ReplyDeleteThe birds are so pretty! This will be fun to see when you put it all together :)
ReplyDeleteYou are a busy girl. I think you might have something there. Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteI like the blue fabric you used for the birds. Goes well with the greens you have used for the triangles. I have "oops" fabrics that I hold onto for ages and ages. Sometimes it is fabric someone has given me that just never seems to go with other fabrics in stash.
