Love Seeing the Abandoned Bits Come Together

So the Scrapbin Improv. {Wing and a Prayer} quilt top is completed. It ended up being 51" x 57" after I decided to throw on the black print border.
Scrapbin Improv. quilt top is finished
That's barely up to a size that seems properly useful, but I had started running out of anything except itty bitty pieces. Ughh.. Not in the mood to work with those right now at all!
Just trying to see what can be done with the scrappy bits...
The black border is the remains of leftover strips cut off from a backing on some other quilt. Love that it carried on the use-it-up mentality of this particular effort! I'm thinking these were good colors/fabric to use for my first time attempting this style of freewheeling scrapbin sort of quilt. All the bright, happy colors just seemed more than ready to match up to each other with little to no fuss. Eventually I hope to try something similar in a much more subtle or muted colorway. This may be the start of another series, we shall see...
Love all the different pieces that ended up being included
On another note, the last three weeks have been brutal. When I posted last, I was just finishing up with a nasty flu and then promptly relapsed. Probably because I've been having to take care of my husband who had the flu, recovered, worked one day and then started having other health problems. He isn't always a particularly healthy person and has some ongoing issues which this flu has seemed to exacerbate. February has been going by in a blur of coughing, hacking, tending, and oh yes, little pockets of hand work. Not getting a lot accomplished in the quilting room, but it sure feels good to have a needle in my hand elsewhere. So very grateful for a well stocked hand work bag! We are definitely on the mend finally, but I just cannot find time to connect better. Will return when things settle down...

  2. hope your hubby starts to feel better so maybe you can too! love the quilt - I know what you mean about that size though - there are just so many we can use for wall hangings if we have the room for even one - a lot of times a quilt that size will get tossed on the dining room table for a decoration - it does look good!

  3. I hope everyone continues to be on the mend, and that daily life eases soon. Actually amazing that you've been able to accomplish anything on the quilting front while dealing with family illness. Take care.

  4. Wow, that was a jig-saw to put together, well done. Always take care of the 'Chief cook and bottle washer' cos if you don't improve, who will look after you? Take care.

  5. Hi Audrey, I just added you and your .husband to my prayer list for healing. I just prayed for healing, strength to return, a new energy and joy in your hearts. And will continue daily until we hear that the both of you are feelIng ‘ In the pink’ as my Grandma Knowles would say. Take care of yourself and your quilt is a lot of fun to look at.

  6. I’m back....I just noticed the link String Play, a reminder to keep playing with scraps. Very nice article along with a quilt that I would be drooling over if I was a Saint Bernard. I liked reading how you chose your colors. I think I sort of work the same way but I like how you verbalized it. I actually jotted down a few notes for reference. Interesting how you skipped over the aqua and left out bubblegum pink and another shade of pink. Interesting, definitely going to refer to these notes my next scrap quilt. I recently made a scrappy bar quilt but my strips are various widths. Love that quilt, but I also like your version with same with strips. I know another bar quilt will be in the near future for me.

  9. So sorry that your household is being held captive by the flu Audrey - it is just so frustrating and draining when it won't move on. Hoping that you two are back on your feet soon. Your quilt turned out beautifully - the black really helps the other bits shine. Hang in there.

  10. I am so sorry to hear of your nasty health issues. Hope this quilt doesn't eventually remind you of the winter of feeling icky because it is a wonderful tribute to your creativity. Hope you both feel in the pink soon! And yes, thank goodness for hand work. After all, a needle in the hand is far better than one in the arm!

  17. It sounds like you've had a miserable time, so I hope you are both on the mend soon. I really like how this worked out, even if it's a tiny bit smaller than you would like. I'd love to see you revisit this in a series kind of way.

  18. I hope you're all on the mend. People forget that the flu is very serious since it's been around so long.
What a lovely collection of bits in your Scrapbin Improv quilt. Love the cheerful spring-like colors. The black sets them off perfectly. Hooray for you.
