A Bit of Inspiration

Every single time I wear these striped socks, quilty ideas flash through my head. Blink, blink. 'This could be a really great quilt!'  You know us obsessive quilter types--always making everything about quilts. So I finally went digging through the totes to see what could be done with my version of these particular colors.
Inspiration is everywhere....
Hmm... not bad for a half hour playtime! Then I started flipping through books and pattern binders... Talk about a time killer. I wasted a couple hours figuring out that while I really want to make a couple super, duper complicated quilts 'some day', the time is not now. Nor with these fabrics. Focus, girl, focus.....
Time to put the thinking cap on....
I have something a little more playful and um.. fast? in mind. So for now they will sit on my counter and every now and then I will glance longingly at them and think hopeful thoughts. Unless of course I steal enough fabrics out of the stack to make things look really pitiful, which will then cause me to hurriedly stash them back in the totes. Or maybe I'll get a big brainwave just a few seconds before I go to sleep, on the night before I leave town, early in the morning, for vacation. 'Cuz that has definitely happened before. And... you never know, they could actually be made into a quilt some day too. I might actually get an idea, time and motivation all at once. Stranger things have happened before.*wink  In the meantime I'm enjoying looking at my most recent fabric stack. What about you? Do you ever make little stacks of great {might actually be a quilt someday} fabrics?

  1. Yes, lol! Sometimes when I desperately want to start a new project but shouldn't, I allow myself to sort through my stash and pick fabrics. Usually I set them aside for a bit to see if I really like the combination. I feel excited about the possibility of a new project and work a little more intently on my current project.

  2. Stacks of great fabric? Yes, of course! Don't we all? I have had a yearning for orange & grey, so I put those special fabrics all in one smallish storage container and ponder what to make.

  4. Stacks? More like piles here...or maybe piles upon piles upon piles for miles and miles for some grins and smiles. (Dr. Suess book in the making?)

  5. I also have colour schemes in mind that are waiting for the right project to come along. Blue and gold is a classic combo. I think whatever you decide, it will be great!

  6. Why do we do that to ourselves? I admit sometimes I dream up a new quilt when I'm having trouble with the one I am working on and need a break. But usually it is because something (like my socks) inspires me. You'll do something super with those colors I'm sure.

  10. My sewing room is usually a mess because of the constant fabric pulling. Each stack is like a little "power surge" of creativity. Aren't we lucky to be able to enjoy such a process? It's one of the things I love about quilting.

  11. I know what you mean by time killer looking through patterns and design ideas. I get oh so side tracked when I see something I have saved for future thought or use and I have planned two or three quilts looking through for a design idea for fabric I have pulled. And no decision on what to make for those pulled fabrics.

  13. Absolutely. Like everyone else I have piles and ideas stacked in multiple places. Sometimes it's just the exercise of playing with the fabric and that's enough and the pile gets replaced with another one for someday.

  17. I have piles of fabric sitting everywhere waiting longingly to become quilts. Why do we do this?!?!? LOL, a question for Freud I guess....

  18. Oh Audrey, I have bags and boxes filled with "special" fabrics, waiting their turn to become quilts. Most of them have a rough diagram or a few words on paper to accompany them so when the bag/box is opened I don't immediately ask myself "what was I thinking?"!!
