Just a Little Time With the Hoop

I don't know why I ever think there will be time in the quilting room in August.  The second half of the month has got to be one of the busiest times of the year!
All Grayed Down in the hoop
Thankfully, every couple evenings I have been able to drag the hoop out and relax to the rhythmic in and out of needle and thread. The applique blocks are being stitched in a freehand baptist fan pattern and everything else is some form of a simple (traditional) echo type quilting. It seems to suit this quilt to a T and it makes me very happy. Which is good.  If the hand quilting is not doing it's job, then well, what's the point?
Simple hand quilting
I had big plans to head over to Reardon this coming weekend for the outdoor Buggy Barn quilt show and it's looking more and more like a 'not happening plan'.  Such a bummer. I love that quilt show to pieces. Kids these days.  Whatever happened to moms making the family plans anyway?*wink

  1. Oh that is one quilt show I would LOVE to go to as well! My weekend will involve driving back home from NC, going to my boys first cross country meet, hosting my girls Sweet 16 cookout and bonfire, and then all of the cleanup that I am sure will be involved. So I can totally relate to the teens running the weekend! If you don't get to the show, reward yourself with some extra quilting time. You deserve it! Oh, and the quilt is looking wonderful...love your hand quilting!

  3. Even if you don't have much time to quilt it will be good for you to know a hooped quilt is there if you do get a moment here and there to fit some stitching in. It'll be just the thing to get you through a busy time.

  5. Glad you've been able to take a very moments to get the rhythm of the needle going. I'd love to be able to go to the Buggy Barn show someday. Maybe you'll be able to make it work with everyone's schedule.

  6. I love the flower applique and the colours you have used. Such a pity that you can't fit in the time to get to the quilt show....remember that Mum's need time out to do their thing too!

  9. Your quilt looks great - isn't hand quilting rewarding? Now if there were only more hours in the day!

  10. That's the beauty of hand quilting... it can sit and wait for the quilter to capture of few minutes of quality time to work that needle. And by the way, you work that needle to perfection!

  11. I see you've moved several projects forward this month, so in my book you're ahead of the game. Personally I'm lucky to get anything done at all during the summer and fall. And then come the holidays - AAK!! LOL!

Your quilting is really very nice. I love the Baptist Fan pattern, especially since it can be done free-form, eliminating the chore of marking.

  13. I so agree with you that the quilting must enhance the quilt. We went through a phase of longarmers choosing pantos which did nothing but fight with the design, often in variegated thread! I think things are going back, but slowly, slowly.
