Some of my best ideas came when I was daydreaming in my sewing loft, staring into the stash, unfocused, and letting the spirit move me. And, no way am I working on unfinished Christmas projects in January. They need to percolate. I can't tell you how many times I've had an idea, but put it aside in favor of "more important" tasks, only to lose the moment and fail to ever really get it back.

Thanks for this perspective. You are...I really enjoyed reading your blog today. You are so right about the Creative Process. I had to learn about it to understand what my brain was doing, and learning that, in turn, made me realize that I am an artist and this is the artistic (read creative) way. I may not paint or be able to draw but I'm still an artist. It's just that my medium is fabric.

I also tend to just putz in the quilt studio when I "should" be sewing - just folding or fondling fabric, looking at colors and combinations, whatever. And it does seem to jog something in the old cranium, doesn't it?

It's tough, when you have a family and other responsibilities, to be able to have enough time for the Creative Process. It does take some "day dreaming" to come up with our ideas. But it is so worth it to allow ourselves the time to do it. Some days it sure seems to be a luxury that we just can't afford.

I've learned to be OK with having multiple projects going at once. I used to feel guilty about it. But with multiples, I have a project for whatever I "need" to sew on a particular day. And some days that may be only string blocks for some mindless piecing - which is hardly ever really mindless. LOL

Thanks for the discussion about this important process. I wish I had known all this when I was a beginning quilter!Sharonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07498453213057487052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5297789041481934828.post-92038570942498182262013-10-29T19:47:21.132-07:002013-10-29T19:47:21.132-07:00Thanks for sharing your thoughts, which in turn ha...Thanks for sharing your thoughts, which in turn have made me think about my process of 'creating' quilts. I have 3 small projects that are simmering, waiting for that 'light bulb moment'. So playing with fabrics is sometimes the only way I can move forward, by working out what I don't like about my fabric choices, leads me to that 'look or feel' I am trying to achieve in a quilt. Sometimes though I wish that simmering would turn into a full on boil!
