Not Much To Look At, But It Is Progress

This seems to be my bit of sewing these days. A little progress but not so pretty around the edges. Just barely hanging on to my quilting mojo while other obligations pile up around me. If I'm not careful I can do the whole 'woe is me' thing and get pretty despondent all because poor 'ol me doesn't have quite enough quilting time to suit.

Like that would be the entire reason I exist. Huh. But okay, facts being facts, I barely had time to take this picture and I've also been trying to do a quicky visit with all the ones who linked up to May Quilty 365. You know, without every single comment being a carbon copy. It's a challenge because I'm speed reading the posts and mostly just taking in the pictures in one big gulp. Love seeing the progress for each unique variation though and I think every one of us deserves a big rah, rah!

I also saw a fun new QAL floating around quilty blogland and want to be digging through my fabric now, dumping out my applique parts and pieces totes and joining right in. Like this minute. Starting a new project is always the very best way to get over the I-don't-have-enough-time-to-quilt blues. Right? I knew my readers would totally understand how that particular phenomena works.
Some applique basket blocks to add to the tumbler basket centerpiece....
But believe it or not, in the last couple days I am now completely blocked out of my quilting room. My husband moved several totes of his stuff into the opening {ie: doorway} and I am unable to access my sewing machine or alas, even enter the room. It's supposedly a very temporary thing and I am too busy to forcibly remove them at the moment. Thankfully I have a couple applique and hand quilting projects available to me in the corner of my bedroom where I stash them for those quiet evening moments.

Aha. Yes. Those quiet evening moments which are so very few and far between right now seeing as how my son is still in possession of the hideabed and usually wants to go to bed at the hideous hour of ten pm. I am fast approaching a mutiny. Or a riot. Possibly a breakdown. There are nights where I just yawn and go right to bed without a single protest. And others where I just stare in disbelief at how little stitching I have accomplished for the entire day. This is not me. I have obviously been taken over by aliens.*wink

  1. My life has been a bit like that the last 2 - 3 months: "I just stare in disbelief at how little stitching I have accomplished for the entire day", but actually days without stitching. Life sometimes takes over, too many people and 'must- do's 'pulling me in all directions and every direction is away from my sewing..... hopefully better times ahead ... great basket and love those red tulips, looks very Dutch!

  2. Maybe you could use your husband's totes to block him and your son out of the sewing room for a day: barricade yourself inside with the sewing machine!

  3. First of all, I feel your pain. Seriously! I don't know any quilter who ever has "enough" quilting time, but some days (or weeks, or months) are worse than others. I do hope things settle down for you soon and that you can grab some more "free time" (good luck). Secondly, I would hope that all of us Quilty 365ers do not expect you to personally respond (although I know you currently do) to every post we make. You have given us the impetus and although encouragement is always welcome and cherished, none of us need any more guilt in our lives. And, if you do feel compelled to answer each one of us, then a simple "good job" would be just fine. And thirdly you already have a spectacular basket there for the center of the "Gwennie Inspired Medallion". Just saying...(bla, bla, bla)

  4. It does seem like it is getting harder to find quilting time but I keep trying. I saw that QAL and quickly turned away. Your basket is a good start.

  5. That's so true-it seems like life gets so hectic sometimes there isn't much time to be creative. And after a hectic day, it can be hard to work up the energy to be creative at that point. I like your basket quilt, they are a favorite!

  7. I was also thinking that your basket would make a perfect start to the medallion QAL, so look how far ahead you already are!
(I'm feeling highly tempted by that QAL myself...) (Not that I need *another* project...)
Hang in there. This too shall pass. (And the idea of barricading yourself in the sewing room is an excellent one!)

  9. LOVE your tumbler basket centerpiece. Hope you will join in the Medallion quiltalong - I mean, it looks like you already have! I can totally relate to how you feel about quilting time. This morning I said to my husband "I've got to get back into quilting" and he cracked up because it's probably been three or four days without quilting - not years - but... feels like too long! Anyway, take a deep breath - and for sure don't worry about commenting on the 365 project every time, right? You started something that has grown and grown... and I think most folks appreciate a few comments but don't *require* comments from everyone! We all "get it." Hope you gain access to your quilting space soon, real soon!

  11. Lucky you. You already have a basket for the center of that QAL! I want to join in, too. Just what I need; another project.
I know how you feel though. I'm so busy with family there is very little time for quilting right now. And I have lots to do. I'm trying to take the positive approach and use some travel time to sketch ideas.

  13. Well, it makes me feel better that others are in my boat! If interruptions and issues would go away..... along with all the problems with a "small" remodeling of 2 small bathrooms - it has been a nightmare but think it is about to be over, I am just a pouting quilter now - it seems by the time I can get to my Studio it is 2 PM and by then I just give up! Love the basket! Hang in there, maybe the door will miraculously open tomorrow! Casino time for me- loud noise and my brain will rest! LOL

  14. I sure hope things get back to "normal" for you soon! I am loving your tumbler basket! So glad you are joining in the Gwennie sew along. I am pondering ideas. This will really be my first time trying to do something from scratch, no pattern!
