Sunburst Getting Another Border

So I dragged out the Sunburst quilt and gave it another whirl. What to do, what to do. It just doesn't look finished to me, something is lacking and I just can't give it up.
Sunburst center before
The middle has always kind of bothered me. A little too stark for the rest of the quilt maybe. So I played with a couple of small additions and finally settled on adding the pink centers to the blue.

It makes more sense when you see what I've decided to do with the next {and hopefully last} border. I finally got it all prepped and waiting in my handwork bag for that magic intersection of time and inclination. If you only knew how many times I've played with this border, contemplating, scribbling ideas down and basically beating my head against the wall. So I'm still not 100% sure, but this time I actually cut out the pieces--that's major progress. I feel like there's a hundred different ideas that would work with for this border and how egotistical of me to think I could possible land on the very best one.
Border prep
I stitched the January block for my personal solids challenge just to relax and unwind. I'm absolutely, 100% sure about that at least! Next up, getting the February block prepped and ready to go.

It's good to have hand work. Honestly, it's a challenge not to have ten projects going all the time.*wink

  1. You have such a beautiful way of creating pretty centers, and then adding borders that work so perfectly and are truly your own.

  2. That magic intersection of time and inclination - lol! These day's I'm only inclined to start new projects... when I have the time :0) I love the addition of the pink centres to the blue - such an interesting applique centre. It will be a wonderful quilt!

  5. I love your style and your descriptions of method. Certain things (design) require much "fuss" whereas perfection of shape, not so much! And you are so right about that "intersection of time and inclination" Well, you've inspired me to get back to quilting... after being very busy with first-in-the-nation caucus stuff. (I'd like to catch up and do a 365 quilt, too!)

  7. One of my favorite things is watching you grow a quilt. 8)
I've found that time and inclination intersect more often when I have multiple projects going. SOMEthing always grabs me when there are several possibilities lurking about.

  13. "The magic intersection of time and inclination" ... that ought to be inscribed somewhere! Yes, the pink adds so much to those little blue flowers in the center medallion. Looking good with those inspired borders too.

  14. Oh Audrey, yes, yes, yes! The pink 'buds' in the centre really draw the eye out to the pink buds/leaves at the top of the tree - perfect! And the way it all ties in with your latest border (love the addition of the dark red 'stripe' btw) is inspired! Sometimes we really do just need to let things percolate for a while :)

  15. Yup, the pink in the center really does work! And I LOVE the outer (and last?) border. It seems just the right ending. I don't have a design wall and I do tend to rely heavily on my digital camera for auditioning. Thanks again for the eye candy. I love this one.

  17. Love what you've come up with. That outer border gives some boundary to the quilt and the design element is a good repeat of what you've used before. I like it.
