Here, There and Everywhere

It's been a crazy couple days. Amazingly enough, there's been progress made, but it's usually in the evening, not exactly optimal time to be taking pictures. I hauled all my Vintage Red blocks downstairs and played with some layout ideas. Will have to let it simmer and see what I think because nothing is making me delirious with joy.
Vintage Red layout fun
But maybe that's just my mood this week? I have company coming, my husbands been sick and for some reason I decided that today is the day to do my pre-Thanksgiving shopping. Have you noticed the price of groceries these days? Sure, I got the olives for 99 cents a can and a free turkey, but wowsers! It takes a lot to feed a family through the holidays!
Hand quilting all done on Big Stars
Guess that's why I've been hand quilting in the evening. Got to lower my adrenaline levels and do some meditative exercises just to get through! lol
Lil' Red Riding Hood
This top may or may not be finished. I kind of like it sans contrasting border--the sort of floating look it has now almost seems to be enough. Almost.
Maybe it's done?
Something else I'll have to think about before I pack it away for good into the quilt top drawers. It's hard to believe this quilt was started with the remnants of two different quilts and five little fat Red Riding Hood fat eighths. I have a special fondness for quilts that allow me to think I'm being thrifty and creative all at the same time!
A different view
My eldest daughter really made my day when she asked about the 'vintage' quilt hanging over the railing upstairs. Oh yeah! That's exactly the word I was looking for with this quilt! But like I said, will have to think about the border a bit more before I know for sure. You know me and how I like the border treatments. Plus, it's not exactly bed size which I usually prefer. Guess that's where the decision needs to be made--to respect the quilt if it's done or try to force another border. These things can get kind of tricky.
More Quilty 365
And of course I'm still sticking with Quilty 365. These are days 22-26! It's not as Christmassy as you might think from this picture. I have a deep coral red along with a raspberry red here in the pic. Still haven't totally figured out why I pick certain colors the way I do and obviously things are not usually radically different from day to day around here. More of a gradual change I'd say!

  1. I do like Lil' Red Riding Hood - so soft and vintage. Borders are nice, too. You'll think of something.

  2. Take your time with Lil' Red - drape it somewhere and contemplate. Let the quilt talk to you about whether or not it needs a border. They don't have to all be bed sized quilts! It is looking so good - soft, cozy, vintage. Just lovely.

Yes, now starts the crazy time of year. Money seems to just evaporate at the grocery store. Good for you for doing the quilting in the evening to calm down.

  3. Sometimes a quilt just yells at me--Enough already I'm done. Other times they kind of sigh--well if you say I'm done, then I guess I'm done. So I hear what you are saying. Put it aside for a few days, then bring it out again. Perhaps that will give you more clarity.

  4. Love Lil Red a lot--I would agree to drape it somewhere you walk by frequently to decide.....the quilting you've done on the Big stars looks amazing...

  6. love both of those quilt tops that you show they both look kind of vintage to me. I've got 18 put aside so far and I need to get busy and prep some more soon I know I won't keep up trying to do one a day so prep some and then have then sitting next to my sewing area so I can get them done.

  7. Not sure why we gravitate to certain colors on given days - I just let it happen. Your "vintage" top is gorgeous - but I suspect you will add some sort of border treatment. Love that quilting helps you stay calmer (it does for me, too).

  9. Your quilts are beautiful!! I love the way you create! One of my favorite quilts was made from some orphan blocks I got at the thrift store -- poorly made, so I took them apart, remade them, and added some blocks made from my fabric stash. Both of these quilts have that lovely vintage look!!

  10. wow you were very quick with Big Stars quilting!

  11. Yes, I really l like that "floating" effect too. Maybe a lighter colour border, like cream, would keep that effect but make it larger? Anyway, good luck with all your shopping and cooking this week!

  12. Maybe a border using the background greens? (I can't help it - I'm a borders kinda gal...)
I'm looking forward to Vintage Red and I already heartily love Big Stars.
And I really enjoy your Quilty 365 circles, as well as all the others you've inspired. I'll be joining soon myself!

  13. Taking photos in the dark not much good, you are right. I like Lil Red Riding a lot right now, but like you have that compulsion to make things bed sized. I'm sure you'll work out the right solution. I'd be pretty chuffed if I could persuade myself I was being both thrifty and creative.

  14. I continue to love your Big Stars quilt. Your making great progress. You've gotten so many to join in your 365 project. Maybe your converting some new people over to the world of appliquéing.

  15. Lil Red looks so soft and makes me feel relaxed. Maybe scallops or a curved border would finish it off. But, I really like it just the way it is.

  19. Lil Red looks done to me! Maybe it's not meant to be a bed quilt, but one to cozy up with on the couch. Love your circles, too! I'm keeping up with mine, so far!!!
