Easter Weekend Gone in a Flash

We had the busiest weekend! Easter was here and gone in a flash. On Friday we left home and drove south to Oregon to attend a cousins wedding. Got in a bunch of good visiting with family, loving on a new-ish roly poly niece and then came home via the Oregon coast on Monday morning. It was a 'business' related detour, but at least we got to wave at the ocean in passing.
Another Crossroads block
Whew! Are we ever tired today. I was able to grab my bag of applique but honestly, there was very little time spent with the needle unless I was in the car and the scenery quite drab.
A stack of finished blocks....
I feel sort of like a hamster on the wheel this week as I prepare for company myself this coming weekend. It has been a steady stream of company all spring as everyone wants to help get my parents into their new home as soon as possible.

It's extremely hard to believe it's already April and so much has gone unattended around our own home of late. We won't even talk about all the many, many things that need attention as it just makes me get a splitting headache and a burning desire to hire a handyman. {And who can afford that luxury?} I want to stick my head in the sand and pretend all the neglected parts and pieces will magically take care of themselves, but of course they never do and still, we survive. Amazing isn't it? So glad we don't live in the era where people felt they had to whitewash their porches!
Some Crossroads blocks on the wall...
In the meantime, I will keep plugging along with a few of my interesting-to-me quilty projects. Hopefully all the lovely colors and textile petting will help to soothe away the ragged edges of our very messy lives...

  1. Your blocks look like they are coming together quickly. You must sew in high speed. Glad you had a nice trip. We had company last weekend and the mom forgot her big suitcase so I had to stuff it in 2 flat rate boxes and mail her clothes back to her in Wyoming today.

  2. Wow! I always wonder how you get so much done. I too have been feeling like I am running on a hamster wheel. Too many projects started and I want to work on al of them. Out in the garden all day, so I am beat but the next two days will be spent in the sewing room. More rain is on its way. Love seeing these blocks on the design wall! Another great quilt in the making!

  3. I feel your pain. Spring break has brought many visitors these last few weeks and I haven't had a chance to quilt. I also have other projects like painting and curtain hanging staring me in the face. Your cross roads quilt is coming together quickly considering the traveling.

  4. The circle quilt becomes more interesting the more blocks you add to it.
We have had a quiet spring here thus far. Not out usual company. But we will probably have company later this month and my stitching time will greatly decrease.

  5. Sounds like a good reason not to have a porch! Your blocks look great! Sewing is my happy place and yes, life is a messy place.

  6. Gosh, if we all waited for the perfect quiet uninterrupted time to sew....guess what, not much would get done. Life has a way of leveling out. Don't get discouraged.

  7. all of your quilts are interesting to me...anything scrappy and I'm hooked...no visitors here but my house is in disaster mode...inside , outside and the car...wondering how much a housekeeper would be?

  8. sometimes life gets really busy and we so wish we could have a break don't we. How is mom and dad's house coming along, you hadn't mentioned it in awhile - almost ready for them to move in?

  11. I would like a handyman, a housekeeper, a chauffeur (for the others I have to ferry around, not for me) and a gardener for the boring bits like mowing the lawn.

  15. I so enjoy reading your posts. It is somehow comforting to know that I am not the only one who feels the stresses of a busy week with little time to stitch. I do feel for you and hope you get lots more stitching time this week. Thanks for sharing those wonderful blocks!

  19. It's good to be busy, but not good to not have time for your stitching! Glad you had a good Easter and a nice trip. Maybe while your company is visiting you can sit and stitch while you visit. Yes, petting the fabrics counts as quality time! I'm hoping to get in the quilt studio for some quality time soon too. It can be so frustrating when you can't get there.

Your Crossroads blocks are fun! I like how they don't "quite" match up perfectly. Makes for a more interesting quilt, in my opinion. But then, my quilts are kinda like that too! :)

  20. Spring is such a busy time, and once the trips to the garden centre start, there won't be much sewing going on around here either! But, the quilt is looking good!

  21. Saw a quilt similar to this in June American Patchwork and Quilting but it is pieced and not scrappy. Yours is far more interesting...far, far, far more interesting and better looking.

I'm thinking when I retire in a couple of years my husband and I will get more done around here. But then we probably won't be able to afford to get anything done.

We do have our garden seeds started and some plants hardening off now but the tiller is broken so don't have potatoes and onion sets in yet....arghhhh....
