Moving on With the Quarter Circles

There are so many ideas swimming around in my head for new quilt projects. It could end up being a tsunami here before too long but I am going to try and dedicate at least SOME time to finish-it-up type work.
Quarter Circles quilt top is DONE!
Here is Quarter Circles, now a proud member of my overflowing stacks of quilt tops. There really wasn't much left to do in order to get it to this stage--sew two rows together and then onto the rest of the quilt--wallah!
Before border
Mostly I was just having some decision making angst about the benefit of bordering the quilt or maybe not bordering the quilt. Seriously. I love the light airiness it almost achieves without adding a border (the red/white sashing won't ever let it look completely delicate) but arghhhh.... wouldn't this look so much better being grounded with something solid(ish)?
After border
So I added the border. Yes I did. It's a reproduction red I pulled out of my stash with a boring no-nonsense print that really holds it's own with this quilt. You may disagree with my decision and that's perfectly okay. I'm still not 100% sold on it myself; although, if you could but see into my quilt room, you would notice that I've already folded it up and put it into the quilt top stacks/drawers. Which really says something to me. All done? Yep, moving on to something new now, no guilt pains at all.....

  1. I tend to not use borders on quilts but I do love it on this one! I'm not sure why. I just think it makes this awesome quilt top even better. Congrats on a finished top!

  2. I have a hard time with my own borders and not having them look like an after thought. I think you made the right decision. I really, really like this top and I think the red border is a great finish because it gives it balance. It works very well. Take care, Byrd

  3. Congratulations on finishing a beautiful top! When it comes to borders, they often look good both with and without them, so it's not always like one is better than the other, they are just different. I think your border makes a great addition to the top!

  6. Fun, fun, fun, Audrey! I love the green squares in the middle of the circles and I like how you used the red and white stripes to unify the whole quilt. I also like the white/light sashing between the large blocks and the small corner squares in -- is it pink?

As I was reading about whether you were going to add a border I looked at the photo and thought, Oh, perfect without a border! Then I looked at the photo with the border and thought the same thing. It's interesting the changes borders make to quilts and how sometimes they add and sometimes they detract from a quilt.

I know you probably won't quilt this for a while but I will be interested to see how you decide to quilt it.

  7. Red almost always make a stunning border. I have no doubt you picked a great one. I too have a closet of tops...I can't hand quilt fast enough and that is OK with me.
Looking forward to what you create next.

  8. I think the red border somehow gives the red in the blocks more importance if that makes any sense? I like the effect and think that the red border was a good choice, even though I initially thought it didn't need one. Once again, you did a lovely job! You go girl!

  18. That border was the perfect choice. It really picks up the red and white in the quilt and makes it sing! Fantastic flimsy finish!
